Management Biographies

With 23 present directorships, Barrie has spent decades building up this accountancy practice and other businesses and was one of the youngest persons in England to qualify as a Chartered Accountant at the age of 18 in 1959. Barrie joined Kenneth Campbell’s Harrogate practice in 1962; amalgamated the practices of Lishman, Sidwell, Campbell and Price in 1967; and has subsequently grown the practice into one of the best quality Accountancy firms in North Yorkshire. Barrie is also Director and former Vice-President of EuraAudit International, the 7th Largest Accountancy network in Europe.
With a commitment to politics and community development in both Ripon and Harrogate, Barrie was Mayor of Ripon in 1981, helping start the tradition of Ripon’s much loved Boxing Day Walk and reinstating the city’s charter from the Queen.
Barrie has served as trustee or Chairman to many local government and community organisations including Harrogate Theatre Forward, Yorkshire Film Archives and Ripon’s Music Festival, Civic Society and Museum Trust.
Barrie is a committed Catholic, actively involved in various charitable trusts and has completed a degree in Theology in 2008. He is also a keen supporter and sponsor of local charities and Music societies.
Barrie enjoys gardening and farming, growing his own vegetables and tending to chicken and sheep (at 5am!) in a paddock behind his home in Ripon, where he lives with his wife Elizabeth. Barrie and Elizabeth enjoy spending time in Italy where they have a second home and many friends. They often visit the Shakespearean theatre in Stratford, attend music recitals at Ripon Cathedral, and are passionate about their children and grandchildren.
